Karl Stern + Javier Ventura

OPEN: Both weekends

71 Promenade

Karl Stern - Colourful paintings, handmade prints and a wide selection of gift cards, capturing the mood and atmosphere of people and places. Karl’s work is inspired by his travels to France, Iceland and Portugal.

Karl has been an art collector for years and went to Leith School of Art some 5 years ago and had his first show within a year. He won the small picture prize at Paisley and has sold in galleries in Edinburgh, Perth, Pitenweem, Ullapool and the borders as well as successive open studio events during ArtWalk.

His work has been selected for several open shows at the RSA, RGI and PAI.

Karl travels to inspire his work with visits to France, Iceland and Portugal influencing current work, and plans for France again and Finland this year with a follow up show in the Borders planned for 2019.

Karl also shows work at Miros Pantry during the Art Walk.

Javier Ventura - Working in a symbolist and surrealist style, Javier seeks to evoke memories and places lost in Portobello, such as the outdoor pool and Art Deco Architecture, as a way of recovering these places.

Javier is a Spanish painter and illustrator, born in Cadiz, studying fine arts in Sevilla. Living in Portobello, his work closely relates to the sea and the light, and to his local landscape and architecture which he uses to tell stories.
