How to apply

'Art Houses' (previously open studios)

Proposals are now sought from artists wishing to showcase their work within their house, studio, garden, or another's home. 'Art Houses' are an open invitation to think creatively about how you display your work within your house or studio environment. It may involve a joint or group exhibition, an installation, or a studio selling show.

Artists living in Portobello or with some connection to Portobello are welcome to apply.  If you dont have a house in Portobello youself, please just say so on your application, and we will endeavour to find you a house for you to show your work in. There is a £60 cost for one weekend (fri-sun) per house/venue participating or for the two weekends the cost is £100. Artists may choose to take part for one or both weekends. Artists are expected to be there for the duration that their house is open to the public, with the first £2,000 of sales going to the artist/s, thereafter there is a 5% commission on sales to the Art Walk.

If you are a local resident interested in participating in the Art Walk by opening up your house, working together with an invited artist, do please get in touch, we would like to hear from you. Please email rosy naylor in the first instance: rosy@artwalkporty.co.uk

'Art in Shops'

'Art in Shops' present opportunities for artists to exhibit their work in a local shop or venue. Previous year's have included exhibitions at The Skylark, Friday Street Antiques, Twelve Triangles, Monny's Ice Cream, Tide Gallery, to name a few, please look at last year's programme here for more details. Different locations offer very different environments and useable wall space which should be considered before applying. Please indicate in your application where you would prefer to show your work, or suggest another location. Art Walk Porty arranges the location of artists works liaising between artist and venue.

Artists participating in 'Art in Shops' do not require to be there attending their exhibition, unless it is an unmanned location. Venues take a 5% commissions on sales, with the Art Walk taking 10%, but there is no general fee to take part in the event.

Some venues are most suited to site specific installations, such as St Marks, or St Philips churches, or Porty Light Box. If you are interested in developing work for these spaces please apply through our curated 'Beside the City' programme where you can apply for funding to cover the costs of materials.
