ART HOUSES + CAFES

Venue 24

Mary Walters

OPEN: 4/5 & 11/12 SEPTEMBER

4 Joppa Park

Mary is a visual artist exploring the Northern realms through printmaking and artist books. She is interested in ice in all its forms, and its disappearance from our planet, with work in development for COP26 in November.

Mary will also have a display of works inspired by daily walks on Portobello beach during lockdown.

Mary's interest in ice results from several residencies in Iceland and Svalbard.

"I am attempting to display a response to the melting of ice both on land and at sea through the creation of wall installations of print, laser cuts and photographic hangings. The centuries-old stories contained in layers of ice lend themselves to investigative exploration and consultation with the scientific community. These can be juxtaposed with with contemporary stories from residents of these ice-laden places."
