Karl Stern

Showing with Javier Ventura

OPEN: 4/5 & 11/12 SEPTEMBER

71 Promenade

Karl creates colourful paintings with a figurative or buildings in the landscape theme, often inspired from time spent abroad (France, Iceland, Portugal, Finland, Canada). This removal from ‘home’ helps him transcend into creativity and allow different environments to impact on mood and colour.

Images are drawn live or with reference to photos and sketches. The partial abstraction of the image and emotive nature of the arrangement or colour has a somewhat unconscious appeal and come from the heart and the eye without too much analysis. Intensity of colour comes from the density of pigment in the shellac. Titles often have a humorous edge.

Many of his pieces are popular as gift cards or archival prints which will be available alongside his original paintings and handmade prints.

Karl enjoys the colour and influence of Bellany, Raoul Duffy, Egon Schiele, Hockney, Marlene Dumas, Jenny Saville, Peter Doig, Claire Harrigan.
