Bright ceramics, patterned tablecloths, sculptural plants are inspiration for Jenny’s recent prints and paintings. Finding new ways of working due to the pandemic, she is showing in her garden and studio, work based on her immediate environment: her house and garden and the local landscape.
Jenny has always been inspired by things others create – wall paintings in Pompeii, church interiors, the colourful facades on markets stalls in India or shop fronts in Leith. For her, these expressions of creativity – the use of colour, typography, juxtapositions of paint with windows, point to a human desire to make their mark on the world around them. This year, due to the pandemic, she has turned her gaze inwards to the things in her own home which have been created by others – jugs, pots, fabric – and found there is a wealth of colour and pattern to explore. Being unable to visit Edinburgh Printmakers to make large screen-prints, she has adapted her home studio to make lino prints and then used these as inspiration for mixed media paintings. These paintings and prints will be on show both in her garden studio and house if restrictions allow.
