Alison’s exhibition explores colour, form and composition in paintings of groups of functional and familiar
domestic objects such as teapots and jugs. Her work includes mixed media
collages, acrylic and oil paintings.
"I have a degree in ceramics (Camberwell College of Art) and have always enjoyed collecting pottery. I have recently been painting table top arrangements of teapots, jugs and cups. The work focuses on interior domestic scenes with objects we use every day. It has proved to be an interesting and challenging project to create work that is balanced, animated and portrays some of the character of the individual vessels. I have made studies, collages, acrylic and oil paintings on board. I have enjoyed working in an open ended way, working towards a resolved picture without a clearly defined plan at the outset. A cup and saucer may be eliminated or moved along the way until I feel satisfied with the image. The work celebrates familiar household objects but rather than illustrations the paintings have become objects in themselves, adhering to their own logic derived from abstract values of colour, form and composition."
