Scottish and Latin American Landscapes: an exhibition by Brazillian/Scottish artist Tadeusz Deręgowski and Scottish artist Jane Rutherford. While both artists share a similar love of landscape painting and quick gestural style, each approaches their subject in a different way.
In the last ten years Tadeusz has focussed on painting pochades: small plein-air oil paintings of landscapes. He has travelled extensively to paint in the North Africa, Latin America, the UK and USA. In 2006 he won the Dedalo Art Prize, in2016, he won the Ann Redpath Painting Prize and in 2018 he won the Henderson Art Grant.
Jane Rutherford’s painting have always focused on patterns of the landscape, created and shaped by human intervention – fields and roads, gardens and clearings, and the juxtaposition of the natural and nurtured environment. Patterns of wallpapers and fabrics are sometimes used to mark a memory of person and place. Jane was awarded the McColl Arts Foundation bursary to work and paint in Brazil on the theme of land development in the Northern Amazon.
