Paintings on paper made by two artists working collaboratively between their homes in Leith and Burntisland based on an interest in power lines, cables and pylons: a celebration of communication across the Firth of Forth.
Initially single sketches were exchanged by post. Small in size, these were overdrawn and reworked, going back and forth from their homes in Leith and Burntisland, until one or other artist felt there was nothing further to be done. Twenty images were completed before the artists met up to decide on the next step in the process. From these experimental pieces a small number were selected to use as the starting point for more substantial works on paper.
These larger works were produced in the studio, working on two at a time, with each artist working on both pieces, adding new ideas, subtracting or painting over previous work. This occurred mainly intuitively, in silence. The paintings appeared to develop a life and a ‘voice’ of their own, feeling almost like a third person in the room.
Both artists gained a combined degree in Art and Design at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2013 and 2014.They have exhibited in solo and group shows.
